Seaside Rendezvous
An "All the King's Men" story

Lily DuPont was somewhat shocked to learn there was more of England than the city of London.
"Vraiment?" she'd said. "I thought it was one of those ville-etat, you know, comme Singapore."
Jo had stopped mid waffle bite, Bug gave her a particularly pointed look over his coffee cup, James attempted to mask a laugh and small smile behind a cough into his fist, and Jude looked at her in blank shock while forgetting he was pouring her coffee at that very moment and allowing the mug to overflow. Pemmy seemed to be the least effected, as he quickly moved from an almost horrified look to a slow head shake.
"No, Lil, that's not how it works at all..." Oh, it was a sad day when Wesley "I-nearly-failed-every-non-technical-course-in-high-school" Pemberton was correcting you on...well, anything.
"Tais-toi," she grumbled. "Je suis du Québec, we are not fond of the English, si vous n'avez pas remarqué." She gently reached out and moved Jude's hand into a stationary position, ending the waterfall that had become her cup. He blinked, snapping out of his trance, and noticed the mess he had created. Muttering a quiet, "Thanks, love." he pulled out a rag and began to wipe it up.
"That's still no excuse for flagrant idiocy, DuPont." Bug smirked as he took another sip of coffee. Lily leaned over and knocked the back of his head as he did, causing him to spew the drink right back into  the cup. He looked at it in disgust, and Jude glanced up.
"Want a fresh one?"
"Please." he muttered, handing him the tainted liquid.
"May I ask where today's adventure takes you?" he called back as he walked to the counter and dumped the coffee down the sink.
"Brighton," Jo beamed. "Perhaps you'd like to join us? I'm sure it's your kind of town." She winked. Jude immediately looked horrified and lost his grip on the cup, sending it crashing into the steel sink and shattering to bits.
"I-I-I-" he stammered out, then gave up and quickly tried to pull pieces porcelain out of the drain, ignoring the group.
Bug simply rolled his eyes and turned to the Welshwoman. "Come now, Johanna, not everyone is as comfortable with their sexuality as myself, don't startle the poor man."
Lily cocked an eyebrow. "Am I missing quelque chose?" Jo shrugged her shoulders.
"Let me put it this way, Lily dear, where are there a lot of gay people in Canada?"
"Toronto." she answered automatically.
"That's Brighton, basically."
A short piece meant to be longer for "All the King's Men" inspired by one of my favorite Queen songs, "Seaside Rendezvous". I may come back to this one later and keep it going.

Also, my apologies for Lily's awful French, it's been a few years.

I suppose this is the first time we're meeting the London PART gang (which consists of two Americans, a Quebec girl, a Welshwoman, and a dude from Brixton, because... priorities, damn it). Perhaps you should pay them all a visit at their (heavily under construction) Public Relations blog and ask a question? ;)
